THE GRACE PLACE CHURCH – A BIBLE BELIEVING CHURCH
As I write this message today it is on the 1st day of June, in the year 2026, it is a day which for many of us, marks the 1st Day of summer. A day when school children kick off their shoes and start going “barefoot”. It’s also a day in which many families start planning family vacations to the beach or the mountains, while farmers begin preparing their crops for harvest a little later in the summer. And of course it is the season when the sound of horse hide (baseballs) meeting ash ( wooden bats) echo across our country as the baseball pennant races have commenced in earnest.
And as I ponder the start of my 76th summer here on planet earth, I am reminded of the wisdom of the Book of Ecclesiastes which states: To every thing, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. In this one verse God is showing us the one constant that we all must face in life, and that is that this world is one of constant change, nothing stays the same, ever. As the old song says: “the leaves that are green turn to brown”. Those who are wise embrace the changes life presents, while those who resist change will surely find much frustration.
The 3rd Chapter of Ecclesiastes makes it clear that the changing of the seasons in life are part of God’s plan for His people, which we should rejoice in, as He is teaching us during those cold and overcast days of winter, that in just a few weeks, spring is coming, along with its gloriously warm and sunny days filled with myriad bursts of color and life which always stirs our souls and gives us great hope and encouragement, while summer’s heat and humidity inexorably gives way to the coolness and beauty of fall with the changing (that word again) of the leaves and foliage.
The changing of the seasons are all part of the divine plan of our Heavenly Father, and shows us the true beauty of His creation, and reminds us, as Louis Armstrong once crooned: “What a wonderful world” this is. And did I mention ice cold watermelon, boiled peanuts and homemade ice cream? Well that too!
